Manufacturers of pumps, compressors, and valves require flowmeters for research, prototype testing, and finished product qualification and inspection.
Rotameter Solution
Rotameters provide the lowest initial cost, lowest installation cost, and lowest maintenance cost for this application. Often a single rotameter with two scales can be used to establish pressure drop versus flow data for a valve using both air and water.
Model Selection
Because of the broad range of sizes, pressures, and accuracies required in this field, nearly any type of Rotameter could be used. The most commonly used models are:
FAM541 with stainless steel construction
Method of Operation
Most manufacturers will mount one or more Rotameters in a flow test panel to cover the flow range of the equipment they manufacture. One such panel may be located and used for R&D testing, prototype testing, etc. Another panel may be used for production testing and/or qualification or generating performance data.
