Orifice Restriction Plates

Categories:
Orifice plates designed specifically to introduce a controlled pressure drop or flow restriction in a pipeline rather than to measure flow. They are used to reduce line pressure or limit maximum flowrate to a specified value.
Each restriction orifice plate has an orifice bore (and plate thickness) calculated to achieve the required pressure drop or flow limit while maintaining plate integrity. For large pressure reductions, multi-stage restriction assemblies (several plates in series) can be engineered to spread the pressure drop and reduce noise to acceptable levels. Available in a wide range of materials to suit process conditions (common choices include stainless steels, high-nickel alloys, etc.).
Technical data sheet (FPD190) describes the design and sizing of single and multi-hole restriction plates, including noise prediction guidance.
Installed wherever a permanent pressure reduction is needed: for example, protecting downstream equipment (pumps, valves) from excessive pressure, creating back-pressure upstream, or limiting flow to a process unit. Common in pump recirculation lines, pressure letdown stations, and relief system outlets to control flow and noise.
No specialized selection tools beyond standard fluid dynamics calculations; manufacturers typically provide design services or worksheets to determine the appropriate bore and multi-stage configuration.
